The Drama at Yarm has numerous opportunities for pupils of all ages to get involved in school productions. There is something for everyone, from performing on stage, writing a pieces of theatre, directing a play, working behind the scenes or developing develop technical skills in lighting and sound.

Drama is also one of many activities at the Senior School and with the addition of both performance drama and technical theatre, there really is the opportunity for everyone to get involved.

Drama Productions

House Drama is a great opportunity for many Lower School pupils to get involved in a production, for some pupils new to ǿ it is their first experience of Drama. The four Houses perform a play directed, and sometimes, written by a team of Sixth Form directors. House Drama provides the opportunity for younger pupils to gain confidence and improve their communication skills as well as providing leadership opportunities to Sixth Form students. Duologues offer pupils in all year groups the opportunity to work more independently on smaller performances. Two pupils choose extracts and perform with minimal props and scenery. There are three Duologues competitions: Junior, Intermediate and Senior which cover the whole school.

Year group productions are teacher-directed, aim for the highest standards and involve a significant level of commitment. There are usually three main productions in a year, aimed at the Sixth Form, the Fourth and Fifth Year. The productions are intimate and usually held in the Studio Theatre over two or three nights.

Musicals are held biennially and attract large numbers of pupils to the auditions. The musicals have large casts and live bands to provide plenty of opportunities for pupils to be involved. In recent years pupils have performed Les Mis, Guys and Dolls and Fame to great acclaim. The 750-seat Princess Alexandra Auditorium provides the perfect venue.
