ÃåµéÇ¿¼é’s Under 16s girls’ hockey team have been crowned as national champions at the England Hockey Tier 3 National Finals.
Taking place in Nottingham, the U16s faced tough competition to qualify for the final against Sevenoaks School, where they dominated the game.
A goal from Summer Hyndman and a hat trick from Mara Morrison resulted in a 4-1 win to take the silverware back to the North East.
The school’s sporting success has extended beyond the U16 category, with the U14 girls’ team competing in the Tier 2 England Hockey National Finals at Nottingham, experiencing a fantastic run, and finishing 5th overall.
Success followed soon after during the Independent Schools Hockey Cup, where the girls U15 team finished an impressive 3rd place among the 90 schools that competed.
These outstanding achievements underpin Yarm’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports and further solidify its national reputation.
Recent accolades include being ranked 40th in the country for school sport by School Sport magazine.
Dr Huw Williams, Headmaster, said: “This is an incredible feat for our pupils and teachers involved in school hockey. It is great to have pupils competing on a national level from three different age groups and achieving such notable success.
“Yarm has a strong track record of sporting success on the hockey field but also in rugby, netball, rowing and tennis which has been recognised by being ranked the 40th top sporting school.â€
Miss Nicola Hodgson, Head of Girls’ Games, said: “Congratulations to all three of our teams that represented Yarm on a national stage. This incredible achievement comes from the pupils’ commitment and passion for the sport through practices, fixtures, competing in school, summer and adult leagues. To have three teams finish in the top 5 of national competitions is amazing and history-making for Yarm girls’ hockey.
“It has been a week filled with emotions and exhilaration, and returning to school with silverware is an incredibly special moment for everyone involved: pupils, parents, staff, and coaches alike. Something they will take with them well after leaving ÃåµéÇ¿¼é.â€
Sophie Hall, the U16 captain, said: “It was a fantastic experience. I am extremely proud of the squad for this historic school win, and it was special to share this experience with the U14s; the future’s looking bright!â€
