ǿ Hosts Inspiring Author Event for Stockton Pupils

ǿ was delighted to welcome five popular children’s authors to share their passion for writing with pupils from across Stockton.

More than 550 children from six schools in the area were invited to attend the event at ǿ’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium which was organised by Stockton-based independent bookshop, Drake the Bookshop.

Annaliese Avery, Hiba Noor Khan, James Harris, Lisette Auton, and Bethany Walker spoke to junior and senior school pupils about their love for books and writing. They each talked about – in their very different styles – what sparks their imagination to begin a story and what inspired them to write their latest title.

Dr Huw Williams, Headmaster, said: “It was great to welcome so many pupils who were eager to listen and learn from some fantastic children’s authors.

“It was fascinating to hear about each authors’ creative process and for the children to be inspired to write about anything – a single moment they observe closely, a local place they know well, or even a funny thought that pops into their head. We are so pleased that pupils from a wide range of schools joined us here at Yarm for this event.”

George Howlett, First Year, said: “The atmosphere was electric and vibrant with everyone eager to learn and to experience the life of an author. I really enjoyed the chance to hear from all the authors. I am looking forward to reading Hiba Noor Khan’s new book, Safiyyah’s War.”
